How to Be Productive Working from Home

Companies all across America have moved to remote-only working as a result of the growing coronavirus pandemic. As a result, workers are scrambling to create a productive work-from-home space that allows them to focus and concentrate. At first glance, your home might not be ideal for working from home, especially if you have needy pets or kids vying for your attention during the day. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to set yourself up for success while you’re working from home – whether it’s just a temporary situation or for the long haul. Keep reading to learn our tips and tricks for working from home during the health crisis.

Tip #1: Create a schedule

A schedule is integral to your success by working from home. When you’re in an office, it’s easy to take breaks and go outside. You can leave the office for lunch or go chat with coworkers around the watercooler. Unfortunately, when you’re at home, time almost melts away. One day bleeds into another without much difference. In turn, this can leave you in a rut because you don’t take breaks or have any structure.

To combat the feelings of nonstop work, consider setting yourself up with a stricter schedule. Start at the same time every day and take scheduled breaks. Make sure leave your apartment and take adequate breaks. Give yourself a full thirty minutes for lunch and a hard stopping point where you actually close your laptop and doing something else besides work like cooking dinner or going for a run.

Tip #2: Carve out an office space

Even if you don’t have a dedicated room for your office, you can still use a corner of your home or another area of your apartment dedicated to working. Above all, make sure that your “office” isn’t your bed or couch.

Working from your bed or couch might feel comfortable initially, but it immediately causes issues. Not only is it bad to sit improperly on those pieces of furniture leading to aches and pains, but it can also put you in a nonproductive mindset that makes it harder to accomplish your work.

Instead, create a small workspace where you can settle in and get down to business.

Tip #3: Take care of your body and mind

Working from home can be difficult to do day after day, even if eventually you really enjoyed it initially. Make sure you take care of both your mental and physical health while you’re on remote work duty. If you’re feeling like you’re bogged down by your projects and can’t think well, consider taking a mental clarity supplement. This can help get you back on track so you can focus on your tasks.

It’s also a good idea to go out for some exercise during the day. Not only does this provide you with a way to get some cardio in, but it also provides your brain with a healthy break from staring at a computer. Plus, exercise can induce endorphins so can be ready to take on work with a more positive mindset.

Tip #4: Invest in ergonomic office furniture

In case you haven’t heard, sitting is the new smoking. If you find yourself sitting at your desk for eight hours straight every day, that can have some severe effects on your body. However, you can combat the negative effects of sitting by investing in a standing desk. A standing desk gives you the ability to change up your working position and can also help you feel more engaged with your work. There are plenty of styles and even sit-stand converters available in the marketplace.

Working from home: Productivity starts with you

Although working from home can be quite an adjustment, it doesn’t need to be overwhelming. You might feel like your home is not adequate for remote work but with a few small changes, you can turn your apartment or bedroom into a work-from-home productivity zone. Start by finding a quiet place in your home that’s empty of distractions. Then, adjust your schedule to give yourself breaks and quiet time away from work. And finally, it’s important to know when to unplug. When your home doubles as your workplace, it can blur the line of life and work. With these tips, you can be productive and happier while working from home.
