LG G8 to feature vein phone unlocking system with 3D scanning add-ons

Apart from introducing the first ever 5G phone in the market, LG recently showed off its latest premium phone which is the LG G8 ThinQ. The device was revealed at the MWC. This device is a follow up by the company to its last year’s device G7 ThinQ which serves as the latest addition to marquee handset. This device has been ranked as one among the high-end phones from the Android section that has been pitched to compete against Galaxy S10 recently revealed by Samsung.

As a successor to G7, this phone shares various features similar to the predecessor. However, LG updated its G8’s front camera that has been termed as the Z camera which brings in a chunk of newly developed tricks. Some of these features pave the way towards major changes in the way users shall use and interact with the phones.

To start with, the camera with the 8mp lens has been decked with the IR sensor as well as a transmitter designed for the motion-captioning purposes and 3D mapping. This allows the G8 for use of 3D mapping that will help unlock the phone by reading facial features. This is pretty similar to the iPhone’s Facial ID feature. Its predecessor G7 had 2D face recognition feature which wasn’t as secure as the 3D unlock feature over the G8. Additionally, this feature is available for low-light unlocking as well.

The G8 has one more feature making it stand out from the rest in the market. It allows the users to unlock with use of veins present in the hand. LG has introduced this unique biometric authentication process that simply doesn’t scan your fingerprint, rather scans your veins as well. The IR sensor in the phone gathers all the potential information from your blood hemoglobin while rendering a unique vein image inside the hand that is specific to one individual only. To get the function up and working, all a user needs to do is hover his/her hand over the camera with no need to touch the phone for unlocking it.

The hand Id comes with another built-in feature termed as the Air Motion. The front camera of the phone can easily track & read the hand movements. This will allow interactions with your phone in a completely new way that doesn’t require you to touch the device. In the price front, it is obvious that it will be priced higher than its predecessor. For the U.S. based users, it would cost somewhere around the $750 mark.
