One of the biggest dreams one can see is having his own house. And yes, it was my biggest dream too. Fortunately, I was able to buy a house and I must say that buying a house was one of the most stressful experiences in my life.
You can buy a house just once or twice in your lifetime and it is really important to do your homework before proceeding for it. While buying my house, I was so excited that I didn’t do much research and missed several things which I shouldn’t have missed.
So, I planned to write a quick guide for those who are going to buy their dream house in the near future.
Let’s have a look on this quick list below.
Well, it’s not just about some basic expenses such as mortgage, taxes, and utility bills. As a homeowner, you are responsible for every single expense such as painting your house, customizing it, installing the new doors and windows, if needed, and many more.
After around three months we moved to our new house, we had to replace the windows because they were cracked. Fortunately, one of my family friends recommended Walbert Windows who are the best and the finest windows installers and they provided me with efficient services at a reasonable cost.
If you are tight on budget, you should never buy an older home. Although the older homes can be found at a relatively low price, its renovation costs may give you a mini heart attack. On the other side, a newer house is less likely to need that much renovation.
The house we bought was built in the 1950s and we had to do a lot of renovation and other necessary things to make it liveable for us.
If you are fond of watching DIY videos on YouTube and think that renovating your house is a piece of cake, you are mistaken. We have planned to renovate the bathroom, replace the main entrance door, and a plethora of others soon after we moved. But unfortunately, it took longer than expected and we were like “What the Hell is this”.
If you have inspected the house and it is good enough for you, you still need to pay attention to some other factors, and having a good neighbourhood is one of them. Some of the benefits of a good neighbourhood are a peaceful and friendly environment.
Most importantly, it must suit you and your family because different families have different preferences and a neighbourhood that suits your family friend may not be right for you. We didn’t look into this while buying our house but luckily, we got a good neighbourhood.
Instead of relying on the house listing, visit the home by yourself and look for every detail. The listing may have missed some important detail which may go against or in favour of you. Also, there may be some incorrect information in the listing so verify each and everything physically.
There are even more things which I wish I knew before buying a house but these 5 are the most important. You don’t buy a home every other day so always do your homework and compile your plans wisely.
