What Should You Know About IBPS RRB Cut-Offs?

0

IBPS RRB is one of the most competitive exams in India. Tens of thousands of people apply each year for the hundreds of posts that are open. For every application, the IBPS RRB previous year cut off is of high importance. Just like most examinations, the RRB sets cut-off marks every year. These are the minimum marks or percentage required to qualify for the posts or the next round.

The cut-off marks keep on changing from year to year. So if you’re going to attend the IBPS RRB examination this year, you need to know the previous year cut off marks.

Factors that Affect IBPS RRB Cut-Offs

The regulatory body decides the cut-off marks, which, in this case, is IBPS or Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. But multiple factors affect the cut off marks every year. Those are:

  • The number of total applicants for that particular year
  • Marks scored by each candidate
  • The difficulty level of the exam
  • Number of vacancies for that year

Of all the factors, the marks secured by the candidates determine the cut-off mark for that year. If the majority of the candidates perform well, then the cut-off mark is going to be higher. The reverse is true if the majority don’t perform well.

The performance in the year can be correlated with the difficulty level of the IBPS RRB examination. It is a two-stage examination with a Preliminary and Mains part. Prelim is of 80 marks while Mains is of 200 marks. With a difficult exam pattern, applicants will find it hard to score more, which drops the cut-off mark.

Similarly, the total number of vacancies and the total number of applicants play their part in deciding cut-off marks.

What Cut-offs Mean to Applicants

So why bother about the IBPS RRB previous year cut-off mark? There are a couple of good reasons why you should.

First, it gives you a gist of how competitive the examination is so that you can align your preparation with it. It’s better to look at the cut-off marks of 3-4 years preceding the current year. If the cut-off mark is close to 90%, then you should prepare accordingly.

The current cut-off mark essentially decides your fate for this year. There’s a mark for both Prelims and Mains examination. So if you’re above the cut-off mark, then you’ll be eligible for the next round. If below that, you should prepare for the next year with more determination.

There are different cut-off marks for different states. So, Andhra Pradesh will have a different one than Maharashtra. The above factors determine the marks. So check with your state to decide whether or not you made it to the next round.

Tips to Ace the IBPS RRB Examination

If you appear for the IBPS RRB examination this year, then here are some tips to help you ace the exam:

  • Start as early as possible with your preparation and regularly refer to the IBPS RRB previous year cut-off marks, exam pattern, syllabus, etc.
  • Don’t answer the questions blindly. Since there’s a negative marking of -0.25 for every wrong answer, you shouldn’t attempt the questions you’re not comfortable with.
