Cyber-tech experts shared exclusive insights into Qatar’s developing cyber ecosystem and its ambitions

Thursday, 22 July 2021: By bringing together an inspiring line-up of Cyber Security experts and solution providers, World Cyber Security Summit – Qatar acted as a major catalyst for Qatar’s bold vision of utilising innovation and technology to broaden its goals. The presentation virtually brought together more than 300 online participants from across the world, including key stakeholders in Qatar’s digital economy.

The virtual conference’s theme was based on assisting key government entities and private enterprises in developing a comprehensive Cyber Security roadmap by assessing critical infrastructure sectors where emerging technologies can be a strategic enabler to boost the nation’s economic competitiveness.

Key takeaways and Highlights from World Cyber Security Summit:

Among the top technology leaders and speakers who joined the global conversation was Dr R Seetharaman, CEO, Doha Bank. Dr Seetharaman took the audience through a session on ‘Cyber Security is a Strategic Business Risk’. He covered key areas such as Cyber Security risks and how businesses and institutions have to re-model themselves digitally to ensure sustainability, the key reasons why cyber-attacks are taking place, tools that can be used to fight cyber-attacks and much more. 

In his captivating keynote, Dr R Seetharaman said, “Internet of things, which involves connecting various gadgets in the ecosystems, also contribute to cyber risk. We have 50 billion gadgets and it’s not only mobile phones – your phone, your shoes, your house, name it home appliances – so all these are interconnected and you have cyber risk ascending in the process.” 

Divjot Arora, Senior Sales Engineer, Forcepoint shared a general perspective and strategic approach for Forcepoint and discussed the challenges faced by business today and how Forcepoint as a company is trying to address these challenges. 

World Cyber Security Summit also featured an interesting tech talk by Tabrez Surve, Regional Security Head, VMware, SEMEA on the topic ‘Stop Advanced Threats Evading the Perimeter.’ His covered presentation covered key areas such as Traditional firewall architectures, Real-time slow visibility and firewall planning, the evolution of advanced thread protection and much more. 

In a cross-industry enterprise panel discussion on the topic, ‘Defensive vs. Offensive Cyber Security strategies for enterprises: get ready for cyber wars of 2021’, moderated by Nazareen Ebrahim, CEO/Founder, Naz Consulting International, the panellists discussed key areas such as Building an effective Cyber Security Workforce Strategy; AI for Cyber Security and Risk Management and much more. 

The panellists who joined this discussion included Heide Young, Co-Founder, Women in Cyber Security, Middle East; Ibrahim El-Sayed, Product Security Engineer, Facebook, United Kingdom; Max Heinemyer, Director of Threat Hunting, Darktrace, United Kingdom; and Imran Chowdhury, Global Head of Data Protection & Governance Al Jazeera Media Network, Qatar.
