NEW YORK, United States, Ripple is expanding the institutional use of its RLUSD stablecoin through a partnership with brokerage infrastructure provider DriveWealth, highlighting how digital assets are increasingly being used to support financial operations rather than simply traded as investments.
Announced on October 14, 2026, the partnership will integrate Ripple’s stablecoin settlement, cross border payment and digital asset custody services into DriveWealth’s brokerage infrastructure. The companies plan to begin with settlement services in Europe before expanding into the United States.
The initiative reflects a broader effort across the financial industry to use blockchain based payment systems for transactions that traditionally depend on banking networks and operating hours.
Stablecoins Target Settlement Delays
Stablecoins are digital tokens designed to maintain a relatively stable value against a reference asset, commonly a fiat currency such as the US dollar. They are increasingly being explored for payments, settlement and transfers between financial institutions.
DriveWealth plans to use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger to help clients fund and manage collateral accounts. The arrangement is designed to allow stablecoins to be converted into cash in near real time, giving brokerage customers greater flexibility when moving funds.
Traditional financial markets often operate according to specific settlement schedules, banking hours and payment processing arrangements. Even when trading platforms offer extended or round the clock access, funding and collateral movements may not always operate at the same pace.
Stablecoin settlement could help narrow that gap by allowing eligible transfers to take place on blockchain infrastructure outside conventional banking hours. The actual speed and availability of a transaction will still depend on operational arrangements, conversion processes and applicable compliance requirements.
Ripple Seeks a Larger Institutional Role
The DriveWealth partnership forms part of Ripple’s broader effort to establish RLUSD within institutional financial infrastructure. The company has been expanding its services across stablecoin payments, custody and settlement, seeking to connect blockchain based transactions with established financial businesses.
DriveWealth provides brokerage infrastructure used by financial technology platforms. Integrating stablecoin services could give its clients additional options for managing collateral and moving capital across markets.
The companies are also exploring potential equity financing opportunities through Ripple Prime, although the partnership announcement did not establish a confirmed launch timeline for those services.
For Ripple, institutional integrations could create demand for RLUSD beyond crypto trading venues. For DriveWealth, the collaboration could support the development of financial services that operate across different asset classes and payment systems.
Adoption Depends on Trust and Regulation
Despite their potential efficiency advantages, stablecoins introduce risks that institutions must evaluate carefully. Customers need confidence in the token’s reserves, redemption arrangements, custody controls and the reliability of the underlying infrastructure.
Regulatory requirements also differ across jurisdictions. Financial institutions must ensure that settlement arrangements meet applicable rules for anti money laundering controls, customer verification, sanctions screening and the safeguarding of client assets.
Operational resilience remains important as well. Blockchain networks, service providers and digital asset custody systems must be able to handle technical failures and security incidents without disrupting essential financial operations.
What Comes Next
Investors and financial technology companies will be watching whether the DriveWealth integration moves beyond an announced partnership into meaningful transaction volumes and broader commercial adoption.
For the stablecoin sector, the opportunity lies in becoming a practical part of financial infrastructure. Wider use by brokerages and other regulated institutions could strengthen the role of digital dollars in payments and settlement, but long term growth will depend on reliability, compliance and demonstrable cost or speed advantages.
The partnership signals a gradual shift in the digital asset industry. Stablecoins are increasingly being evaluated not only for their role in cryptocurrency markets, but also for their ability to support the movement of money across the wider financial system.
